Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!!
Green Club has been off to a fantastic start!! We just finished our phone book drive and our school collected thousands of phone books for Recycle Livingston!
We are working on our Adopt An Animal project. We'll have a stuffed animal day in January. The money raised will go towards adopting an animal for Green Club. Last year we adopted a Polar Bear. Stay tuned to find out what this year's animal will be! :)

Waste Free Wednesdays
Hutchings Green Club has been sponsoring "Waste-Free Wednesdays" in our cafeteria. We have challenged our students to limit their waste whether they pack or buy lunch. If students pack a lunch, we are encouraging them to not make any trips to the trash. They should pack in all reusable containers, including their drink. If students buy lunch, we are encouraging them to only take what they will eat and drink to reduce waste. In addition, napkins, straws, and silverware should be taken only when needed. Students who are "Waste-Free" are entered into a raffle for a chance to win green-themed prizes!!
Michigan Green School Application
Our application for Michigan Green School Status was submitted in February. We expect to hear back by the end of March.
Guest Speaker
Green Club was proud to host Mr. Manning as a guest speaker during our March 10th meeting. Mr. Manning spoke to us about the Asian Carp infestation, as well as other invasive species in Michigan. We learned a lot about how an invasive species can negatively impact an ecosystem. The picutures he shared were fascinating! We plan to get involved by writing our legislature in an effort to help stop the Asian carp infestation. Thank you, Mr. Manning!

****IMPORTANT GREEN CLUB CHANGE****
Well, again we have found it necessary to adjust our meeting times. As this is a new program, we are finding as we go that we need to be flexible and find what works best for most people involved. Due to the schedules of our adult volunteers and some student members, we have decided to change all of our meetings to lunch/recess meetings. We will no longer have after school meetings. All of the meeting dates will remain the same, usually the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Our meetings for this month will take place on January 13th and January 27th. We thank you for your understanding. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!!
